Pressure Mounted Gates
This type of gate relies on pressure applied to rubber bumpers to stay in place. They are cheaper and very convenient to install and use as they require no drilling or installation. However, this type of gate is only recommended in area's where safety is not an issue since it doesn't take much to knock one out of position. For instance, it may be a good choice for use in a doorway to segregate two areas. The ease with which the gate can be dislodged represents a major hazard if installed for safety purposes at the top of stairs.
Safety Tip: Pressure mounted gate must be placed so that the bar is on the side away from the child, because they often try to use it as a foothold to climb over top.

Kidco Gateway G10
This gate fits 28-34" wide openings. Kidco sells 6" and 12" extensions if this width does not suit your needs. This product is made of a heavy tubular steel coated in white plastic. It features single handed operation and was rated best in the pressure mounted category by a major consumer magazine. This gate includes a section that opens and closes while the rest of the gate stays in place. The vertical bar design discourages climbing.

First Years came up with a great idea when they made this gate. They recognized that parents often need an extra hand and they gave it to you! This gate opens by operating a foot pedal, leaving you both hands free to carry your baby, a diaper bag, packages and whatever else you can manage. It is easy for you to operate but difficult for your child. The gate is pressure mounted and fits in all standard doors (29" to 34" wide). It swings both ways and there is an audible click when the gate locks so there is no mistaking whether you closed it or not

Evenflo Plastic Mesh Gate
A very inexpensive, simple gate. Expands from 26" to 42" wide and sits 24" tall. This gate is lightweight, durable and you won't have to worry about children hurting themselves on the plastic mesh. However, this may not be a good gate for toddlers who are learning to climb since they can get a foothold on the mesh.
